Something in the way she...screams?

Apparently we don't do transitions.

It continues to happen on a daily basis.  But for some reason, things just fall completely apart between 6:30 am until 8:30 am and again from about 3:00 pm until 6:00pm.

Sunshine is screaming and usually standing right under me while doing it.  Little Prince is into everything or pestering a sister.  Doesn't matter which one, just whichever one is closer.
And Daddy's Girl turns into something other than her better self.

This morning was no exception.

Mr. Wonderful and I had actually agreed last night that we would get up early with each other and spend some time over coffee talking to God and each other.  Well, apparently Mr. Wonderful is not supposed to get face-time with God because every time he tried to pray he ended up just about gagging to death because of allergies.

So then the morning really began.

Bang!  Bang!  Bang!  (The sound of Little Prince kicking the door to get out.  We have those child door-knob thingys.)

The girls are up and the race is on.  Mr. Wonderful proceeds to get ready while I make breakfast and pack Daddy's Girl's lunch.

Mr. Wonderful and I intermittently call to Daddy's Girl:

"Are you dressed?"
"Almost."
"Are your shoes on?"
"I'm looking for them."
"Have you brushed your teeth?"
"I'm looking for my shoes."
"Brush your teeth.  Daddy has to be at the radio station and they can't wait for him."
You get the idea.

I begin separating laundry from the Mt. Everest pile that has accumulated in what seems like only 5 days and Sunshine becomes, well, Squall.  She screams, she cries, she stands right under or on me, nose running, while she does it all.

I look for a paci.  There is not one to be found.  Nowhere.  Not the one she had last night in bed.  Not any of the 5 or so we had, like, two weeks ago.  So she screams.  Dad holds her.  I hold her.  We put her down.  Doesn't matter.  She screams.

Mr. Wonderful and Daddy's Girl leave for their day and Sunshine continues to scream and cry.
I continue to look for a paci.  Anywhere and everywhere.

But now it is about 8:45 am and she and Little Prince have been playing for about 15 minutes happily.  And things will roll along pretty calmly until about 3:00 pm when Daddy's Girl gets home because...

we don't do transitions.

  2. oh I am right there with you. my little helen (13months) will NOT let me put her down morning or afternoon either. If i am right there she is fine, but if i walk away she squeals. She is even learned how to go full flat tantrum on the ground...face down, bawling, Who teaches these kids these things??

    Hang in there!

  3. I love your sense of humor...we also transition badly and I frequently remind myself (between 6-7am and 4-6pm) that this parenting gig is the most on purpose thing I've ever done in my life. :) Enjoy your day!
